Canon 80D Costco Review

With its quality and affordability, Costco's Canon 80D DSLR Camera is a no-brainer.

There are hundreds of expensive cameras on the market right now, but none of them seem to deliver the way that this one does.

Through the years, I’ve tried a number of digital cameras that delivered (at best) decent performance, but I found myself returning the product within 6 months of purchase due to an unforeseen error or bug. SD card reading errors, mediocre battery life, software issues-- you name it.

Like many photographers or hobbyists, I was truly tired of wasting money on restocking fees and dedicated too much time on finding the best camera that suited my needs. It was obvious I needed a huge step up in my photography game.

This was all until I found Costco’s Canon 80D Camera, a camera designed to deliver highly-precise autofocus to capture those precious moments in any kind of environment.

Don’t waste your time and money like I did and use my experience as a cautionary tale.

Stop looking. Keep on reading. I promise it’ll be worth it.

  • Features & Benefits

What distinguishes Costco’s Canon 80D from other cameras is its unique 45-point all cross-type autofocus system. Users can choose from four types of autofocus area selection modes useful for a number of different photograph profiles.

Don’t have a steady hand? The 80D camera features Canon’s newly innovative Dual Pixel CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor), which allows for seamless autofocus during live view and media recordings. This innovative technology will fill in the blanks for any shakes or tremors during a shooting.

Even in difficult environments to shoot in, the quality of photographs remain virtually the same. With the Canon 80D, subjects and scenes are consistently tracked into focus with little to no effort.

This gives users the ability to focus on the content of their productions rather than preoccupying themselves with finding the “perfect” settings.

Tired of finding the correct cable to connect the camera to your laptop? The new 80D features wireless technology in its sleek design, allowing users to easily transfer photos and videos directly from a camera to their smartphone or computer.

I found this to be quite useful when traveling because I didn’t have to worry about bringing all the correct cables. In fact, because of this, it was easy to share photos to the entire family while on vacation.

The camera’s full DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) compatibility translates into effortless sharing between devices. Have a Wifi router at home? You can use Local Area Network (LAN) to upload images and videos instantly on social media to impress friends and family.

This camera works perfect for client website images. Very versatile when it comes to a variety of needs like portraits, close-ups, landscape shots etc.

    SEO & Web Dev.

Without having to remove the camera from your bag, you can take and share photos, edit settings, and organize your media from the comfort of your phone. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Whether you're an online influencer, hobbyist, photographer, videographer, or simply an individual who enjoys documenting their life’s journey, the Canon 80D is suitable for anyone and everyone.

  • FAQ

How many megapixels is the Canon 80D?

The Canon 80D shoots 24.2 megapixel images.

What kind of resolution can I get from photos shot with an 80D?

The 80D's smallest resolution offered is 720 x 480 and its highest is 6000 x 4000. There are several other options well, including a small size that gives you 2976 x 1984 resolution. One big caveat to using small image sizes is that you are dramatically decreasing the overall quality of your shot.

What is the resolution for video recording?

The 80D shoots full HD 1920 x 1080p video - offering video quality on par with Blu-Ray discs.

How can I switch from shooting images to shooting movies?

The top-right hand side of the camera back has a small dial on it showing a white TV and a red camcorder. To shoot video, turn the dial to the red camcorder and to shoot images, turn it to the white television.

How do I change the lenses on an 80D?

The front of the camera has a button right near the lens - press the button inward and rotate the lens clockwise. To put a new lens on, match up the white notch on the lens with the one on the camera and turn the lens counter clockwise to lock it in place.

What lenses are compatible with Costco’s Canon 80D?

According to Canon’s website, this camera is compatible with Canon EF Lenses (including EF-S lenses, excluding EF-M lenses).

Is this camera only meant for professionals?

Absolutely not. As I’ve stated earlier, it doesn’t take a professional to understand how to use this camera. I typically use digital cameras during family vacations or events, and still this camera delivered profound quality. In fact, this camera’s ease of use is enough to convince any beginner to at least try this gadget out.

    What are the camera’s dimensions?

    According to Canon’s website, the camera is approximately 5.47 x 4.14 x 3.09 inches.

Approximately how many shots can I get in with a full charge?

You can shoot approximately 1390 photographs without flash, 960 shots with flash (the exact number depends on which battery and shooting method you’re using).

How easy is it to download my photos?

In one word: Simple! With wireless technology included in the design of the camera, it’s easy to take your images from the camera to your smartphone, personal computer, Canon image gateway, or even your wireless printer. This wireless technology also brings other features to Canon 80D such as remote shooting and control of the menu.

How Durable is the Canon 80D?

The body of the Canon 80D is made of polycarbonate and magnesium alloy and is sealed to protect the interior mechanisms from dust or moisture. Canon has tested the shutter and proven it to stand up to at least 100,000 exposures. It appears to be a sturdy camera that will stand up to normal usage.

Does the Canon 80D come with a warranty?

Cannon offers a one-year warranty. Costco’s return policy is pretty liberal as well and allows for returns of up to 90 days after purchase for cameras.
